It was a fall morning just after dawn. As the incoming storm stalled over the west shore, the sun rising in the east created one of the most enduring, brilliant double rainbows I have ever seen. A large group of birds was actively fishing in the distance, and I could see a few bald eagles in the mix. I thought it would be fun to try to photograph the birds in front of the rainbow. I moved closer to the action with my telephoto lens, waiting in the cold wind and rain for the right moment. The first bird, a juvenile bald eagle with a fish in its talons, zipped past the rainbow in a flash with two more eagles in pursuit. Luckily a few minutes later, another bald eagle came flying by at a more leisurely pace, just as the brilliance of the rainbow peaked, and I was able to capture this image.
